We Filipinos love to eat anything, like corn and dishes with rice alongside it. However, we also tend to forget that as we enjoy these, there are people who tirelessly work just to make sure that we get to be served with nutritious food.
One of those is Mr. Julio Dela Cruz, 42 years of age and has been working in the Asikan (Rice Field) and Maisan (Corn Field) for almost 22 years at Concepcion Tarlac. “Aldo-aldo migigising kung 4am para magparanum, muna ketang asikan kayari na nita keta namang maisan.” said by Bapang Julio when we asked about his daily routine in farming. It also takes him at least one to two days of checking both the asikan and the maisan’s crops status. In addition, he also stated that farming in rainy season gives him a hard time, because it consumes more energy as you move to the muddy surroundings. Having a lack of sleep is something we complain from day to day, but for a farmer like Bapang Julio, lacking of sleep and getting wet from the rain is something he endures for him to earn money.
Subsequently to this, it just shows how backbreaking the job of a farmer is and how much effort they put into generating their crops. With this, I hope that the farmers like Bapang Julio will get more acknowledgement for their consistent tremendous work in order for us to have something healthy to take in.
